Clark County carries most of Nevada's traffic deaths. 64% of Nevada fatal crashes from 2020 to 2024 occurred in Clark County (Nevada Traffic Safety Crash Facts, June 2026).

Why do some sources show 296 deaths for 2024?
The Nevada Office of Traffic Safety counts 296 Clark County deaths in 2024 (296 of 420 statewide). The FARS Annual Report File shows 293. Counts differ slightly by agency and by the date each file was closed. We use FARS for 2020 to 2024 so every year is measured the same way.
What about 2025 and 2026?
Preliminary 2025 figures show 235 deaths in Clark County, down 20.6% from 296 in 2024, and 380 statewide (Nevada OTS, as of Dec. 31, 2025). Through August 31, 2026, the Office of Traffic Safety counted 127 Clark County deaths, compared with 169 at the same point in 2025 (Nevada OTS, August 2026 report). Both years are preliminary and will change.
Fatal crashes are a small share of all crashes. The Las Vegas Sun reported that Metro Police recorded 18,109 crashes in its jurisdiction in 2025, about 50 a day (Las Vegas Sun, Sept. 23, 2026).
Which Las Vegas roads have the most fatal crashes?
Interstate 15 had the most fatal crashes in Clark County from 2020 to 2024: 95 crashes and 109 deaths. US-95/I-11 was second with 69. Las Vegas Boulevard had the most of any surface street, with 54 fatal crashes.

These are raw counts, not rates. Long, busy roads carry more traffic, so they collect more crashes. A high count shows where deaths happen. It does not by itself show that a road is riskier per mile driven.

What time of day are Las Vegas crashes deadliest?
Night. 58.0% of Clark County fatal crashes from 2020 to 2024 happened between 6 pm and 5:59 am. The single worst hour was 7 pm, with 7.2% of fatal crashes.
The evening is the peak. 19.2% of fatal crashes happened from 6 to 9 pm and 17.0% from 9 pm to midnight. 55.7% happened in darkness, most of them on lighted roads (FARS light condition, 2020 to 2024).

Which days are most dangerous?
Weekends. Friday, Saturday and Sunday together accounted for 48.2% of Clark County fatal crashes from 2020 to 2024. Saturday was the worst day (16.9%) and Wednesday the lowest (11.4%).
How many fatal crashes involve drunk drivers?
About one in three deaths. NHTSA reports that 33% of Nevada traffic deaths in 2024 (138 of 417) happened in crashes where a driver had a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher. Our estimate for Clark County is about 31% of deaths from 2020 to 2024.

Our Clark County figure uses NHTSA's own method. FARS includes estimated blood alcohol values for drivers whose test results are missing (multiple imputation). We applied that method to Clark County crashes. It is our estimate, not an official NHTSA county figure.
Why do some sources say 45%?
Nevada's Crash Facts report says impaired driving was involved in 45% of Nevada fatalities from 2020 to 2024. "Impaired" there covers alcohol and/or drugs. The 33% figure covers alcohol only, at .08 or higher. They measure different things, so do not compare them directly.
What other factors show up in fatal crashes?
Speeding was involved in 417 Clark County deaths from 2020 to 2024 (33.5%, FARS). Statewide, Nevada's Crash Facts report lists speeding in 30% of deaths, lane departure in 40%, intersections in 33%, and unrestrained occupants in 18% (2020 to 2024).
How many pedestrians are killed?
362 pedestrians died in Clark County crashes from 2020 to 2024. That is 29.1% of all traffic deaths in the county. Clark County accounted for 79% of Nevada's pedestrian deaths in those years (362 of 461).

In 2024, 92 pedestrians died in Clark County, 31.4% of the county's traffic deaths (FARS Annual Report File). Preliminary 2025 figures show 81 pedestrians, 59 motorcyclists and 12 bicyclists killed in Clark County (Nevada OTS, preliminary).

Where do the city and police focus safety efforts?
On a short list of streets and intersections. The City of Las Vegas found that "77% of Las Vegas' serious injury and fatal traffic crashes occur on just 11% of the streets." Metro police have also run targeted enforcement at specific intersections.
That quote is from the city's Vision Zero Action Plan (August 2022). The City of Las Vegas also named priority intersections under its 2021 CICMP:

Which intersections did Metro target in 2025?
FOX5 reported on September 3, 2025 that Metro police launched special enforcement at 12 intersections. The list below is as reported by FOX5. We did not obtain it from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) directly.

How did we build this analysis?
We downloaded NHTSA's raw FARS data files for 2020 to 2024 and kept every fatal crash in Clark County. We then counted crashes and deaths by year, road, intersection, hour, day and road user. Our county totals match Nevada's Crash Facts report.
- Data. FARS national CSV files for 2020 to 2024: accident, person, vehicle and driver blood alcohol (multiple imputation) files. Filters: STATE = 32 (Nevada) and COUNTY = 3 (Clark).
- Fatal crashes only. FARS covers crashes on public roads in which someone died within 30 days. It does not include injury-only or property-damage crashes.
- File status. 2020 to 2023 are FARS Final files. 2024 is the Annual Report File and may be revised when NHTSA releases the Final file.
- Road names. FARS records road names as officers wrote them. We standardized them: state route numbers were matched to street names (for example, SR-592 is Flamingo Rd), ramps and directions were folded into their freeway, and US-95, I-11 and I-515 were combined. Each crash is counted once, under its primary road. Intersection counts use both road names on the record.
- Alcohol. Deaths in crashes where any driver had an estimated BAC of .08 or higher, averaged across NHTSA's 10 imputed BAC values. This is NHTSA's published method, applied by us to Clark County.
- Other years and sources. 2025 and 2026 figures come from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety and are preliminary. We did not mix them into the FARS totals.
